Employer: A LEADING CONTEMPORARY GALLERY IN PHILADELPHIA Position: Gallery Director Full-time position Salary + Commission + Benefits
The Gallery Director will work, in conjunction, with the Owner on many aspects of gallery/artist management. An emphasis on sales, both primary and secondary, as well as marketing skills are essential for this role. In addition, the role will require the Gallery Director to work closely with the Owner to develop a core design, as well as, oversee the construction of the new gallery space. The Gallery Director will also be charged with creating a Secondary Market Sales plan and executing upon it for the Gallery. Client, corporate and community development will also play a large part in this role. Lastly, the Gallery Director will develop and cultivate new artists for the gallery.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Secondary market activities: Create and execute a positioning plan to pull the gallery into the secondary market. · Sales for the Gallery artists. · Business Development: Continually generate/plan with the Owner strategies to increase sales. · Marketing: Continuous planning and development of innovative/effective marketing strategies for the Gallery. · Social Media and Emerging Technology development for both the gallery and artists. · Corporate and Private Client development and management. · Curate Group and Individual Artists Shows. · Research/Develop new artists to add to the existing gallery program. · Appraisal Management. · Manage ‘bills of sale’ on new work as well as the collection of payment. · Gallery scheduling management. · Manage the Gallery Administrative Assistant. · Event/Opening management including planning special events for the gallery. · Work with the Owner on the New Gallery Design and Construction. · Grant writing and research for artists.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 10+ years of experience working with sales, marketing, secondary market within an art gallery or museum. · Proven track record in creating effective and innovative marketing plans for a gallery. · Proven sales record for a gallery or museum. · Broad network of artists/dealers/galleries/museum contacts. · Broad knowledge of Art Shows in both the US as well as Abroad (Europe/Asia.) · Exceptional and creative Event Planning and execution skills. · Experience in working with Social Media and Emerging Technologies on behalf of a Gallery or Museum. · BA or Masters (preferred) in Curatorial Studies or Art History.
